Planet Earth has truly unending beauty, from vast deserts to deep oceans, green forests to sprawling cities, we have it all.
We also have some of the most downright scary places on Earth, and we are here to make sure they make you lose sleep tonight.
There is a fine line between absolutely beautiful and downright, shit your pants, terrifying. A stroll in the deep, dark woods might start out nice, but what happens when you find that abandoned mine covered in vines? Or how about sailing your boat out in the sea when you suddenly come across an endless black hole in the middle of nowhere.
Whether manmade or an act of nature, these are the 11 scariest places on Earth.
1. House of Communist Party, Bulgaria
This is easily one of the most scary places on Earth and by far the most intergalactic looking. As if straight out of Star Wars, this abandoned house of the communist party in Bulgaria takes our first spot on the list of the most scary places on Earth. I mean, imagine walking into this place, and being so batshit confused that you had no other option than to either pause or just run the other way. No way I would ever be here alone.
2. Dean's Blue Hole, Bahamas
As far as natural scary places on Earth go, this might just take the top spot. I mean, what in the F*@& is down there? I can't even stand swimming in a shitty little pond, so if I had to swim over this Satan's butthole of a nightmare I would simply rather peel hard boiled eggs or stuff pillows into pillow cases for 1,000 years instead.
Whoever Dean is, he is an asshole.
3. Kolmanskop, Namib Desert
One of the most beautiful scary places on Earth, Kolmanskop in the Namibian desert truly looks like it is straight out of a dream. When a cattle herder had to pull over with his 6 oxen carts because of a sandstorm, this small town was born. While a diamond was found soon after that resulted in a brief rush of hopefuls, by the start of World War I, Kolmanskop was abandoned and taken over by the sands - resulting in one of the most beautiful, albeit creepy, places on Earth.
4. Pripyat, Ukraine
This one is my absolute favorite and one of the only on this list I actually want to go to! Yes, I've seen all the shitty movies, and while I am sure visiting this nightmare of an abandoned town would end just the same way, there is just something about visiting such an insane place that makes me want to go.
An entire town, abandoned overnight, with food still on the shelves and clothes still drying in the yard - terrifying.
5. Christ of the Abyss, Frutusso, Italy
Easily the worst possible sight you could imagine while diving, this ghostly asshole has greeted unlucky passerby's since the 1950's. I know what you're saying, don't call the son of God an asshole, but JESUS CHRIST look at the picture. To be fair, it was placed in the lake intentionally and if you ended up in the "sunken Jesus" lake without realizing what was in there, you deserve to have the holy shit scared out of you.
6. Steeple in Rechen, Italy
Now this one just looks cool. Looks cool until you realize that this is the TOP of a church, which must mean that there is a whole lot of terrifying nonsense below the icy surface of this lake in Rechen, Italy. The worst part is, when the church sank, there were tons of people IN IT - who I'm sure will happily greet you in the icy depths. Why are so many of these religious? Makes them twice as scary.
7. Sunken Yacht, Antactica
Something about this one makes it one of the scariest looking, when in actuality it is just a fancy sunken yacht off the coast of Antartica. However, imagining the elite playing on the deck before it went down sure does add to the mystery and allure. That being said it isn't the most scary place on Earth - but eery enough to garner a spot on our list.
8. Russian Military Rocket Factory
Anything with the Russian Military involved is enough to make me shit my pants - but when you pair that with an abandoned rocket factory, thats when I really lose it. Easily the most similar to a James Bond "Golden Eye" level out of the lot, there is no way I am exploring this hell hole without a golden gun.
9. Victorian Home, Florida, USA
This abandoned Victorian home in Florida, USA has absolutely all the ingredients that make up every child's nightmare. It looks like it was once a nice house, but the chipped paint, huge sprawling porch, Spanish moss and 100% rooms full of little dolls make this one of my personal favorites on the list of scary places on Earth.
10. Abandoned City, Keelung, Taiwan
Whats worse than an abandoned house in Florida? How about an entire abandoned city in Taiwan? I mean there is just something about scary things in Asia that make them 10 times scarier - and this one doesn't disappoint one bit. If you would like to go insane, have nightmares for the rest of your live and be forever mind-fucked, this is the place for you.
11. The Catacombs, Paris
What would a list of the most scary places on Earth be without adding the Catacombs in Paris? Thousands upon thousands of bones pilled high, stacked endlessly below the streets of the city. Limbs, skulls, rib cages and everything in between, this is about as bas as it gets. Usually you leave it up to your imagination to find the skull and crossbones, here they give them to you for eternity.
